The post ERC joins MANRS first appeared on ERC Broadband.]]> Through significant diligence by the ERC Network team lead by Chuck McCurry, the ERC has joined MANRS (www.manrs.org) after being certified as an “Internet Operator”. The ERC is the 82nd US-based Internet Service Provider (ISP) to obtain this certification out of 529 worldwide. MANRS is a global initiative supported by the Internet Society, that “..provides crucial fixes to reduce the most common routing threats.”

ISPs can and do create issues within the Internet by poor practices and configurations. The basic premise of MANRS is that it is our mutual job with other ISPs to participate in the global Internet as best as possible and be a good-neighbor to the rest of the BGP universe. Customers in Alaska, Idaho, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Utah, and Wisconsin have been affected, a Verizon spokesperson told Ars Technica . Many of these customers were on unlimited data plans, but are still being cut off for using too much data.”

Max Lennon, who worked with the ERC until 2004 and then started the partner organization Education & Research Services (also nonprofit) where he served as President, died Tuesday, November 29, 2016.
The ERC offers its deepest condolences to his family.
His funeral will be Monday, December 5, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at Asheville First Baptist Church.
